Is It an Emergency?
Emergencies use a different channel and a different tone. Answer a handful of quick yes/no questions to figure out which lane you're actually in.
This is orientation, not a diagnosis.
Every property defines emergency differently — some include water heaters, some don't. When in doubt, call the emergency line. They'd rather triage than miss something.
Life safety check
Is anyone in immediate danger right now?
Before we go any further, check whether anyone is in immediate danger. Examples include:
- Fire or smoke
- Smell of gas
- Structural collapse
- Active flooding creating an immediate safety hazard
- Active break-in or violent situation
- Medical emergency
- Any situation where someone's immediate safety is at risk
