Dispute or move on?

Not every deduction is worth chasing. Not every deduction should be accepted. This framework helps you answer the question calmly, using what you already have on file.

Four questions worth sitting with
  1. How much is actually at stake? Under a couple hundred dollars is a different conversation than a full deposit.
  2. What do you have on file? Move-in photos, pre-inspection notes, walkthrough disputes, receipts — the strength of your record matters.
  3. Is this normal wear or actual damage? Check the Wear & Tear Spotlight before deciding what looks off.
  4. What's the cost of your time and peace of mind? That's a real number, and only you can weigh it.
It's also fine to not dispute
Choosing not to dispute isn't giving up. Some renters agree with the deductions. Some decide the amount isn't worth pursuing. Some find management already resolved it. Some just choose to move on. Whatever your reason, it becomes part of your Rental History — a truthful record of how this chapter closed.
