The Playbook / Love It or Leave It / Thirdly — Move-Out Prep & Execution
DIY vs. professional cleaning.
Start with what your lease actually requires. Not with what feels safest. The goal is to leave cleanly without unnecessary expense.
Educate first
Many renters assume they owe a professional clean by default. Sometimes they do. Often they don't. Read the lease first — this framework helps you know which situation you're in.
1. Does your lease require professional cleaning?
Look for a cleaning addendum, or phrases like "professionally cleaned" or "at the resident's expense."
Start with what your lease actually says.
Not what feels safest. Not what a leasing agent said in passing. What the lease actually requires when you return the unit.
2. Was the rental professionally cleaned at move-in?
You're generally required to return the unit in the condition you received it — not better.

4. Your call
